Hilary should have won. Trump outmaneuvered her. She played not to lose. He had nothing to lose. I voted for Clinton, I voted for Bernie. Trump was the laughing stock of politics. But I knew he had an incredible opportunity to win.
Trump is a salesmen and a bully. Two qualities that define winning in American culture. He sells with the sizzle not the steak. And he prefers steamrolling action to intellectual conversation. He is the average American who prefers to beat their chest and start a chant at a football game. The same person who likely beats up the guy with the ruler and calculator. Being right is a frame of mind and in politics it’s never scientific.
He played some amazing angles against Clinton that deep down most agree to be true. The notion that Clinton presents nothing more than 4 more years of the same political black hole I’d bet money on. I’m not saying Clinton was not qualified, I’m saying that politics is broken and has been for a long time. We don’t fight others we fight one another. We are not a united nation we are a highly fragmented nation with a million agendas. We are suffering from the pains of freedom. We live in a great period of time but we must also recognize that this is what happens when EVERYONE wants ALL rights and equality.
With Trump people could roll the dice on getting another idiot… or possibly something potentially new. And if America votes for anything it’s potential, novelty and new. Think about Colin Kaepernick of the 49ers. When he came on the scene he was a young gun slinger that surprised everyone. A player full of potential. A new fresh face to bring a franchise back to the glory days. It was enough to win him the starting job and a huge contract. Fast forward to today and we find that the things that inspire us to vote someone in and the reality of their abilities are often a premature judgement. Trump may very well be the Colin Kaepernick of politics but he did what counts: he won the starting role as QB1 for USA.
It almost didn’t matter what Clinton said, she never stood a chance because she could never give the people what they want: entertainment. For a country moving quickly and seeing it all we crave for the next and newest thing. Trump filled those shoes brilliantly.
Trump also dominated the media coverage and although overwhelming negative, it only goes to show that we live in a very slippery reality. Much like the 24/7 media frenzy surrounding the Kardashians, Trump tapped into the attention economy like Kim and Kanye. Attention is the new currency. With a nation as wired as ours eyeballs are everything. And in a terribly uneducated country repetition is king. I can’t tell you a damn thing about the Kardashians but they’ve carved out a space in all of our worlds.
I accept his presidency while shaking my head. As a person who is a realist my prediction of his presidency is as follows.
At Best he uses his Kanye West level of crazy to intimidate the rest of the countries of the world to continue to yield to our power. America is a war machine and we suck the resources of other nations and pollute their lands so ours stay pristine and that takes guns. The fact that a person who is perceived as crazy has all the weapons is not a bad thing. Because in my opinion Donald Trump is not actually crazy, he simply employs it as a consistent lifestyle because it works for his brand.
At Best he brings back jobs. I think he will and I think that is a valid point. Manufacturing has moved entirely to China and that is short term profit from the 90’s and 00’s that is currently catching up to America. We need to manufacture things here.
At Worst he brings us into WW3. And that’s certainly within reason. Because when someone like Putin picks a fight with Donald. Putin wins every day. Donald is able to intimidate most people but there are countries out there that would disrobe him. And the only way to maintain his aura would be to fire the missile first. And he just might.
I agree with Peter Thiel’s assessment of Donald Trump. He’s far from perfect but at this point in humanity our system of government is broken and Donald Trump may be a good thing in the long run. Because if politics is broken we need people to fix it or wake us up to the reality. If Elon Musk ran for President I would support him. If Jeff Bezos ran for President I would support him.
We live in new times and Silicon Valley proves that technology waits for no one and evolution constant. Even the government has to evolve and right now we are witnessing it, starting with Trump.
